Sarah Bichir, APCC, ATR-P
Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m an art therapist, painter, and muralist. I’m from a small town in Indiana and currently live in Los Angeles. I’m passionate about the intersection between art, community, and wellbeing and I use my work to explore it. Other passions include practicing traditional Egyptian cooking, playing soccer, and incessantly pausing movies to share my thoughts with the only person who would tolerate the behavior, my partner Stephen.
As an art therapist, I specialize in working with children and their families from a humanistic, client-centered, and trauma-informed lens. I have extensive experience working with kids who struggle with trauma, identity confusion, attachment wounds, depression, anxiety, and aggression. I’m passionate about social justice advocacy and the decolonization of classic theoretical orientations of mental health. It’s so important to me that I work with people in a way that supports their values and experiences. I work in individual, family, and group settings.
As an artist, I specialize in paint. I’m continually drawn to portraiture because painting faces has always felt like an act of love to me. I paint my loved ones to feel close to them; I paint strangers to deepen my appreciation of humanity. Murals feel like a similar act of love at the community level. I primarily work with oils, but have developed an appreciation for watercolor and acrylic because of their accessibility in the therapeutic setting. In addition to paint, I enjoy drawing, bookbinding, collage, and clay.
